Unfair advantages in finances for political canidates becomes less of an issue because of the ability for politicians to use the free internet to voice their opinions and run their campaign. Not only does internet technology give canidates or politicians the ability to communicate their ideas, but citizens as well. Internet is becoming a place where people are able to actively participate and discuss different issues and debates. It elimates a lot of space, time and cost. With internet technology become more easier to use and widely accessible, politicians and citizens are able to deliberate, express, and speak their voice.

I agree with the authors and their ideas of the movement from tradition to digital media on the internet. The use of the internet will take education, availability, status, and much more. We are at an age where children are learning about the internet and are more educated on it than we were when we were elementary school. This can have multiple impacts on education but the shift is starting the movement towards the internet the main source of news and information has begun.

Questions:

What are the main disadvantages of internet technology in political campaigns?

What will be the next venue that the internet will impact or influence? or is there?

What can be the possible defects of online voting?

Week #6 Reading Response

What are implications of Blogging Technology on Established Media?

Blogging technology has changed the way people interact with their everyday media experiences. The distrubution of news and information has become a major phenomon with blogging technology where people are able to find and publish information and news on their own weblogs or others around the world. Where people were only consumers of media, now we have become producers and distrubuters of Media through the technology of weblogs. Journalism has a whole new meaning and elasticity with the interent and the creation of weblogs.

Established Media such as the radio has experienced a new era in sharing and participating in everyday news, opinions, ideas and information. The listners don't have to wait until the phone lines open to share their opinion, now they are able to take part in the discussion and actively communicate their ideas on the stations weblog.

This technology opens up so many more way for people to communicate and interact with the everyday media they see, listen and read.

Week #5 Post

Communciation scholars should study the recent open source software movement because it can shape and form the way people create technology which in turn will impact the way people interact, conduct their businesses and improve negatively or postively the standard of living. Technology continues to improve, advance, and become more widely available. This will change the way of life for people all over the world in how they get their information, news, entertainment, how they interact with others, etc. The open source software movement is an intriguing idea of development and improvement which can have both positive and negative impacts in the world. While the internet is becoming more widely available and accessible, businesses and software industries are faced with an issue of copyright and sharing. Although this may be a problem for industries and businesses, for communication scholars this is a worth while phenomenon and behavior to study. By making improvements on software and making them widely availability creates a conglomerate of people all over the world doing business, communicating and interacting with each other for cheaper, faster and easy to use access. This movement has huge implications of globalization and integration of nations, peoples, and communities. It is definitely an issue to think and contemplate about because it raises several issues both negative and postive.

Questions:
Do you think that some kind of authority will be placed to overlook and organize online behavior?
What are the positive and negative aspects to this movement? Do the positives outweigh the negatives? Can laws be made specific to cyberspace? If so, how?

Week #4 Reading Reflection

These readings brought up controversial and intriguing points about the complex relationship between man and machine. I couldn't help think about movies such as Terminator, A.I., I Robot, and Matrix that brings up issues that were brought up in these two papers. Many issues, such as human error, malfunctions, incompetence, etc., are all themes in which these movies have. I believe that films and the creativity of hollywood directors have captured many of the main points in this movie. So personally I wasn't too suprised with the issues that these authors brought up. I believe that our generation has been exposed to the up and down sides of technology through the movies that we see.

But after the readings, i can't help be fearful and skeptic about the future of technology. I believe that technology enhances human life in many ways but the dynamics of the relationship between man and machine is a love-hate type of relationship. We as humans fall in love with technology and become dependent upon them, i believe it is up us to be responsible and ethical about how far we take our capabilities of creating technological advances.

there needs to be a standard, some moral code or rules that will prevent from humans taking it too far. we are capabible of anything and everything but there needs to be a limit.

Questions:

How can we reduce human error? by better technicians? more testings?

How can we alleviate the fear of computers/technology that some people may have?

Do you think that jobs will soon become more seldom for humans as technology continues to evolve and take place of human jobs?

Reading Reflections #1

Two Ah-ha's:

"knowledge" seems to be responsible for the invention of the computer, not so much convenience or by shere accident

Warfare had to do a lot with the innovations and inventions of all sorts of devices

Memex vs. Internet:

There are characteristics that are very simliar between Vannevar Bush's description of the Memex and today's personal computers and the internet. The memex was for individual use where it functioned as a storage space for files, books, libraries, records and others materials. It sounds very simliar to the computers that we all have at home and at school. I use my personal computer to store music, files, papers, videos, pictures and many other valuable information. And just like our computers, the Memex was able to consult the stored information at quick speeds.

Internet in 2045?

By 2045 i believe that the internet won't be as accessible or open to the world as it is now. I think that international laws and regulations will be enforced due to the lack of privacy and exploitation. On the optimistic side, i believe that the internet will be cheaper, faster and available in different forms of everyday items, such as the in cars, phones (but with improved technology), watches, etc. It is kind of scarey thinking about how the internet is going to be in 2045.

Yay, my first blog ever!!!

just for testing purposes!
